Summary

One unbearable mistake at the edge of the forest。

In a moment of crisis, Ellis Abbey leaves her daughter, Viola, unattended—for just a few minutes。 But when she returns, Viola is gone。 A breaking point in an already fractured marriage, Viola’s abduction causes Ellis to disappear as well—into grief, guilt, and addiction。 Convinced she can only do more harm to her family, Ellis leaves her husband and young sons, burying her desperate ache for her children deeper with every step into the mountain wildernesses she treks alone。

In a remote area of Washington, a young girl named Raven keeps secrets inside, too。 She must never speak to outsiders about how her mother makes miracles spring from the earth, or about her father, whose mysterious presence sometimes frightens her。 Raven spends her days learning how to use her rare gifts—and more important, how to hide them。 With each lesson comes a warning of what dangers lie in the world beyond her isolated haven。 But despite her mother’s cautions, Raven finds herself longing for something more。

As Ellis and Raven each confront their powerful longings, their journeys will converge in unexpected and hopeful ways, pulled together by the forces of nature, love, and family。

The story had much promise, a young mother accidentally leaves her infant daughter behind in a forest, and returns and to find her missing。 Believing herself to be unfit, Ellis leaves her family behind to search for a new life。 In a parallel storyline, Raven grows up believing she is a gift brought to her mother from the earth。 Vanderah carefully tends to both characters until their paths converge and then it is soap opera time with too much drama providing no real explanation for the resolution The story had much promise, a young mother accidentally leaves her infant daughter behind in a forest, and returns and to find her missing。 Believing herself to be unfit, Ellis leaves her family behind to search for a new life。 In a parallel storyline, Raven grows up believing she is a gift brought to her mother from the earth。 Vanderah carefully tends to both characters until their paths converge and then it is soap opera time with too much drama providing no real explanation for the resolution of the tale。 。。。more

Great readI enjoyed the 1st book I read by this author and decided to give this book a try。 I thoroughly enjoyed this one as well。 The story has many levels and she ties them tighter so well。

Naturally beautiful!I love how I get so caught up in the story and the characters that I lose all track of time and can’t wait to get back to the book when I do have to stop reading for a time。 Also, her blending of the physical world and the spiritual world is truly beautiful, and love does conquer all in her novels。

This book was amazing! Amazing transformation of life through love。This book was an accidental read。 I pressed the wrong title and didn't realize it until I saw it in my library。 Since all things happen for a reason, I began reading。 What a wonderful and beautiful error!A convulx of misconceptions, lies, and fear: Generations of like minded people making mistakes, and lacking trust, brings about a family spirit none thought was possible。 Amazing transformation of life through love。This book was an accidental read。 I pressed the wrong title and didn't realize it until I saw it in my library。 Since all things happen for a reason, I began reading。 What a wonderful and beautiful error!A convulx of misconceptions, lies, and fear: Generations of like minded people making mistakes, and lacking trust, brings about a family spirit none thought was possible。 。。。more

Quick easy read。 The story line is a bit far fetched。

Great visual storytelling and plenty of twists

I hesitated for a couple of months to start this because I thought it was going to be too tragic。 And it was, but in a good way! I loved the different points of view。 I’d have liked to have learned more and River and Jasper’s childhood, as well as more from Jonah through the years but I’m happy with what we’re told and how it all ends!Book 34 in 2021

This book has a little bit of everything Drama。 Betrayal。 True Crime。 Coming of Age。 Romance。 Broken Family Dynamics。 Adventure。 Mystery…。 truly a little bit of everything! This is what undoubtedly gets it 5 stars from me! This novel had me anxious to read through to the end and I enjoyed every second of it。 Although that many themes racing throughout sounds chaotic on its face, Glendy Vanderah wove the strands masterfully to create a cohesive and intricate story。 Highly recommend to anyone that This book has a little bit of everything Drama。 Betrayal。 True Crime。 Coming of Age。 Romance。 Broken Family Dynamics。 Adventure。 Mystery…。 truly a little bit of everything! Well, that was completely ridiculous。 But I enjoyed it anyway。

Weird is great! The only reason I gave this book three stars, instead of four or five, is how hard it was to get into。 Because I can appreciate weird and different, I am very glad that I kept reading。 This book has so many themes that intertwine, and I love that。 So, if you're finding the first few chapters a bit puzzling or even off putting, hang in there。 It's worth it! Last 5% was a bit sappy but all the way through was an enjoyable read, parts difficult to read but thoroughly immersed with the plot。

This is a 3。5 to 4 star read。 First 75% of book was decent。 (Spoiler alert!)。 Got a little too pat and wrapped in a pretty bow at the end。 The premise of a kidnapped baby is riveting。 The lies and secrets of every family are a bit much。 Raven ends up as a relatively unrealistic character by the end。 I don't know of many teenagers who would eschew all extraneous electronics at the behest of a mother, when attending middle school, junior high and high school with otehr teenagers。 Nor can I believe This is a 3。5 to 4 star read。 First 75% of book was decent。 (Spoiler alert!)。 Got a little too pat and wrapped in a pretty bow at the end。 The premise of a kidnapped baby is riveting。 The lies and secrets of every family are a bit much。 Raven ends up as a relatively unrealistic character by the end。 I don't know of many teenagers who would eschew all extraneous electronics at the behest of a mother, when attending middle school, junior high and high school with otehr teenagers。 Nor can I believe she never snooped in her own house when she was in this age。 River was a bit too bitter and sarcastic。 Anyway, it was an entertaining enough read, just not too realistic。 Read first 3/4 on an airplane ride。 Did like Ms。 Vanderah's first book better。 。。。more

Best book I’ve read in a long timeExcellent book from the first to last page。 Great development of characters and storyline。 Couldn’t wait to sit down and be drawn into it again and again

this book was written very poorly, very bizarre and unrealistic/over the top。 not crazy about the way mental illness was portrayed in this book either, implying that it was spiritual or magical when in reality it can be detrimental to those who suffer from such。 DNF。

Great read! This was a thoroughly enjoyable book。 I took this one camping and it was the perfect length for a long weekend。 A few aspects were predictable, but it does not detract from the enjoyment of the book。

Come on!This was a really bad ending to an otherwise adventurous story line。 Every thing came together but there was no rational

A fascinating readI enjoyed this book because of the characters。 Their personalities were each fun to get to know and love。 Often when reading, one can guess the outcome fairly quickly; however, not in Vanderah's book。 She provides the reader many unexpected curves that are not predictable。 She also touches on the harsh realities that many people must face in their own lives。 As in real life, the next season always comes; the darkness doesn't last forever。 A fascinating readI enjoyed this book because of the characters。 Their personalities were each fun to get to know and love。 Often when reading, one can guess the outcome fairly quickly; however, not in Vanderah's book。 She provides the reader many unexpected curves that are not predictable。 She also touches on the harsh realities that many people must face in their own lives。 As in real life, the next season always comes; the darkness doesn't last forever。 。。。more

This review has been hidden because it contains spoilers。 To view it, click here。 Such a beautiful and painful story; gorgeous and flawed people I was rooting for chapter after chapter (especially Ellis and Keith, big fan of Keith since he showed up on that campsite)。 4。5 stars as I wasn’t expecting a HEA for every single one of them after so many issues throughout the whole book。

A great read Ellis saw her husband kiss another woman。 Distracted, she forgot to pick her baby and drove off, realizing her mistake too late。 A mistake that broke her life, marriage and family。 The missing baby and affair triggered so many other events that made this book a beautiful and absorbing story。 It’s about family dramas and realities, the play of nature and nurture on human development, pain, love, forgiveness and reconciliation。 It’s a reminder that indeed, light does shine through the A great read Ellis saw her husband kiss another woman。 Distracted, she forgot to pick her baby and drove off, realizing her mistake too late。 A mistake that broke her life, marriage and family。 The missing baby and affair triggered so many other events that made this book a beautiful and absorbing story。 It’s about family dramas and realities, the play of nature and nurture on human development, pain, love, forgiveness and reconciliation。 It’s a reminder that indeed, light does shine through the leaves。 Another lovely book by Glendy Vanderah。 。。。more
